Nesting Birds, Their Haunts and Habitats
Peter Fackender has been involved in Bird watching since he was a boy growing up on a dairy farm at Dapto.
Peter pursued a career in Electronics and Instrumentation at Port Kembla’s Steelworks and following retirement has travelled extensively throughout Australia following his passion for Birdwatching and has recorded at least 550 of the 850 Bird species in Australia.
In an effort to obtain better quality photographs of our birds, he built ‘hides’ to observe and photograph at close range and sometimes at heights up to 11 meters. Spending many hours in a hide allowed intimate observations to be made.
Observation skills and a knowledge of a bird’s habits were needed to locate nesting birds and precautions were taken to eliminate risks to them. The Audio/Visual will illustrate the different types of nest construction and some examples of nesting behaviour.
Peter has been a member of the Illawarra Bird Observers Club (IBOC) since the mid 1970’s and is a member of Dapto Probus Club and has often shared his images and experiences with local community groups.
