Join us for an inspiring evening celebrating the literary talent within our community! Shellharbour City Libraries will be hosting Hayley Scrivenor (Dirt Town & Girl Falling, #1 Australian Bestselling Author), Dinuka Mckenzie (The Torrent, Taken and Tipping Point, Award-Winning Author) & Camille Booker (What if I Fly? & The Woman in the Waves, Award-Winning Author) for this special event coinciding with our Sydney Writers’ Festival programming.
What you’ll do:
Engage with the authors themselves as they share the stories behind their books, their creative processes, and the journey to publication. Browse through the book displays, chat with the authors, and perhaps even purchase a signed copy of your next favourite read to support local writers!
About the Authors:
Hayley Scrivenor is the author of Dirt Town, which was published internationally in 2022 (published as Dirt Creek in the U.S., where it was a USA TODAY bestseller) and quickly became a #1 Australian bestseller. The novel has been shortlisted for multiple national and international awards and translated into several languages. In 2023, Dirt Town won the ILP John Creasey (New Blood) Dagger, the Lambda Literary Award for LGBTQ+ Mystery and the ABIA for General Fiction Book of the Year. Her second novel, Girl Falling, was released in Australia in August of 2024.
Dinuka McKenzie is an Australian writer and the author of the Detective Kate Miles crime series, The Torrent, Taken and Tipping Point, published in Australia and the UK. She is the winner of the 2020 HarperCollins Australia Banjo Prize. Her writing has been shortlisted for the Sisters in Crime Davitt Awards, the Bad Sydney Crime Danger Awards, and longlisted for the Richell Prize. Her short fiction appeared in the 2022 Dark Deeds Down Under Crime and Thriller Anthology.
Camille Booker is an author, creative writing teacher, and PhD student. She has a bachelor’s degree in creative writing and is currently pursuing her PhD, also in creative writing. Her debut novel, What If You Fly?, was longlisted for the Lucy Cavendish Fiction Prize in 2019, was runner up in the Hawkeye Manuscript Development Prize in 2020. Her second historical fiction novel_, The Woman In The Waves,_ was shortlisted for the 2023 Varuna/Affirm Press Mentorship Award, runner up in the 2023 CYA Conference Competition, and won both the Grand Prize of the Mystery/Thriller category of the 2022 Book Pipeline Unpublished Competition and the 2023 Hawkeye Manuscript Development Prize, and will be published in 2025.
