Indigenous Literacy Day
Shellharbour City Libraries are excited to partner with the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District for Indigenous Literacy Day! Our libraries will deliver a special Dreamtime themed Storytime to Indigenous children and families attending.
The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District will provide families with a gift, resources and information booklet which talks about the benefits of Storytime.

Kirli Saunders (OAM) is a proud Gunai Woman. She’s an award-winning multidisciplinary artist, writer, singer-songwriter and consultant. Kirli creates to connect and to make change. She was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for her contribution to the arts (2022).
Our libraries have a number of Kirli’s book including Bindi, Our Dreaming and The Incredible Freedom Machines.

Dr Jodi Edwards is a Yuin woman with Dharawal kinship connection who has dedicated her life to community, culture, education and Language.
As a Dharawal language speaker and advocate, she is passionate about awakening the language and has written a number of Dharawal language books you can find in our libraries.
Connecting the dots
Learn on how to do Indigenous dot painting and learn all the symbols and signs that are used in Aboriginal culture.
All materials will be supplied and will be able to take home the artwork.
Learn the yidaki
Come in to learn how to play the yidaki (didgeridoo).
Brendan from Yindyamarra Cultural Experience will be coming in to teach you how to play and the cultural meaning behind the instrument.
